Ronaq was born and brought up in a Sopore town of J&K. She did her master’s in Journalism from the University of Kashmir. Soon after completing her master’s, she did her M.Phil. from the same University. In 2012 she won the prestigious Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Fellowship, as part of which she worked as a guest journalist for Deutsche Welle in Germany. In 2013, she started teaching journalism at Govt. Degree College, Baramulla, J&K.
