Wetlands are one of the most threatened ecosystems in the world. Whether they are mangroves, paddy fields or lakes, they are disappearing or are getting degraded due to urbanization, industrial and agricultural activities and other formal and informal encroachments from various economic agents. Wetland ecosystems provide innumerable tangible and intangible benefits to the economy but their contribution is ignored due to their public good/common property nature and as a result they are depleting and degrading overtime. With this background, this book reports on the distribution of wetlands in various states of the country.
