About This Book

This is the biography of a couple born than 100 years back in remote village of Bihar which didn’t had good roads, electricity, any good primary school, or parents/guardians who would take interest in their education.

Still call it their fate or turn of events, after their marriage they found themselves transported to an unexpected Province and a society where the language, food, education, social structure and everything they came across was new to them – a totally new universe. But through their sheer will power , grit and hard-work, they carved their own lives. It is beyond imagination that they could come across people like Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, ‘Bharat Ratna’ Dr. D.K. Karve (founder of Stree Shikshan Sansthan” of Pune). Taking inspiration from the latter, my parents established and nurturedthe first girls fully residential educational institution in Bihar named Balika Vidyapith at Lakhisarai in Bihar.

This book is an account of their hardship and tears as well as achievements and joys.

Meet the Author
Blue rose author
I belong to a middle class Bhumihar Brahmin family of village Punas, district – Samastipur of Bihar. I was born on 13.06.1938 at Chennai, where my parents were working in “Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha” established by Mahatma Gandhi in 1918. Therefore, I had my early schooling in that city with Tamil as my second language. Finding the women of Bihar at high illiteracy level and old and traditional beliefs and practices when compared to their counterparts of South India, my parents thought of doing some social work in that field for their upliftment. So, they returned to Bihar and established the first residential school for girls in Bihar at Lakhisarai, named “Balika Vidyapith” in 1946. Hence, I also came back along with them. I had my schooling from Lakhisarai, College education at Munger and Post -Graduation from Patna University. Having competed for the Administrative Services in 1963, I retried in 1996 and am settled at Patna. This is my first literary attempt.
