Ms. Shanti Samal:
Ms. Shanti Samal was born in the year 1945 in Marshaghai of Kendrapara district
of Odisha. Her husband Sri Rabindra Narayan Samal worked as an engineer in
Durgapur Steel Plant in West Bengal. In the process, she has spent a major part of
her active life at Durgapur. She worked as a teacher in St. Michael’s School there
for long years. She has dedicated her life to literary activities after moving to
Odisha after her husband’s retirement.
Ms. Samal is well known in Odia households as the author of sixteen books in
Odia on cooking. She has also published several anthologies of short stories and
books for children. She has also published a few books on features. She is also a
social activist.
Ashok K. Mohanty:
Ashok K. Mohanty (b. 1951) is a translator, columnist and critic. He has published
about thirty books translated into English from Odia. These include short story
collections, novels, plays and autobiographies. Three of his books have been
published by the Central Sahitya Akademi. He retired as a professor of Business
Administration of Berhampur University, Odisha in 2011.
