J.A. Rama Moorty, who turned 72 on 23 rd March 2021, has been into humour writing for
about 50 years. His first piece, The Eligible Bachelor’s Brother, appeared in the Shankar’s
Weekly (SW) in August 1972. Besides the SW, his contributions have appeared in
newspapers and magazines like The Times of India, Hindustan Times, The Hindu, Deccan
Chronicle, Sainik Samachar and Star & Style. He has primarily focused on presenting
everyday situations in an unusual way. At the same time, he has consciously avoided
lampooning his subjects. He was awarded the Khasa Subba Rau Memorial Prize for Best
Published Writings by an Osmania University Journalism Student during 1973-74.
On the professional front, he, has close to 30 years’ service in a New Delhi based central
government organisation. He proceeded on voluntary retirement during November 2004.
